The club was the most cherished weapon of the Fijian warrior. The more enemies killed, the more powerful your weapon is thought to be. The different clubs were used for different scenarios. This is an Ula Fijian War Club. They were used for throwing at an enemy. Warriors would often carry many either tucked into their belt or close to hand. This particular Ula is called Tavatava, since it has flanges or lobes on the head of the club. The club is made from hardwood.
The club has a plaque with Japanese characters on it.
The piece does show some signs of age and use. There is a crack on the handle.
