An evocative hand-built ceramic vessel dating to the Pre-Columbian period, likely originating from the cultures of ancient West Mexico. The piece features a distinctive ovoid, seed-like form with a small protruding element at one end, possibly suggesting a stylized zoomorphic or anthropomorphic feature.
The surface retains traces of red and ochre pigment, applied in loose, abstract patches over a buff earthenware body. Significant surface weathering, mineral accretions, and pigment loss are consistent with long-term burial, contributing to its strong archaeological character. The irregular aperture at the top suggests use as a ritual or funerary vessel, possibly associated with tomb offerings in shaft burial traditions.
The piece has been repaired, but not painted or sanded. General wear and discoloration.
