This is a beautifully embroidered and beaded Hazara purse from Afghanistan, 20th century. Hazara are an ethnic group from central Afghanistan. The silk thread embroidery is worked on cotton by very fine lines of cross or herringbone stitching. The Hazara embroidery tends to be a form of counted thread work, supposed to free style embroidery. The outer edges are lined with blue glass seed beads to protect against the evil eye. Inside the purse are two pockets.

The purse is in fine condition. The threads of the embroidery are fraying.
