Meiji, Japanese scroll painting on silk of a Great silver phoenix rooster, hen, and baby chicks under a chrysanthemum bush with white fluffy flowers. The birds have great depth and detail. The colors are bright and vivid. It is signed "Nakagawa Shurel" and has two seals. Nakagawa Shurei was a Japanese turn of the century artist who is known for his Rooster and Hen woodblock prints. The painting is mounted on a Gold colored silk scroll background with bone scroll caps.
 
The mounting shows wear and tear from age. There are several smudges at the top of the painting.
