Late Edo/early Meiji Period, Japanese, lacquer, document box depicting a gorgeous motif of whimsical vines among a handsome basket. Crafted upon brown lacquered surfaces with raised and dimensional gold lacquer paint, the box features a domed lid embellished with breathtaking Mother of Pearl and pewter inlays. The internal surfaces shimmer with their gold lacquer paint and similar aesthetics as the box top.

 

Please note, this document box shows signs of wear commensurate with age and use including surface scuffs and minor dings. Additionally, restoration has occurred to include touch ups to the lid. With no structural cracks or shrinkage of materials, this box would be an amazing addition to your collection!
