Late 19th/Early 20th century Madura Island, Indonesia carved wood keris handle in the Donoriko Style with a pierced and finely carved shape and design. The designs are in keeping with the island’s predominately Islamic background influences of ornamentation with zoomorphic forms rather than animal or human forms. The handle is carved into the shape reminiscent of a fern tendril and is covered in decorative pattern with a crown shaped shield and winged horse surrounded by scrolling floral and repetitive patterns. The overall patina of the wood is a very dark brown with several surface cracks which are commensurate with age and wear.Dimensions: 3 1/4" L X 3/4" W X 1 1/4" D
