This 18K Italian Grand Tour Micro Mosaic Mid-19th Century Brooch is a stunning piece of antique jewelry. The brooch features intricately cut tesserae arranged in the Chi-Rho symbol. Next to the Chi-Rho are the symbols, Alpha and Omega which refers to the beginning, continuation, and end of all things. Surrounding the mosaic is an 18K yellow gold bezel detailed with twisted decoration. The back of the brooch is inscribed with 37P. This piece was most likely made for upper-class young men to take back home from their grand tour in Europe. This was common during the 19th century and Italy was a key destination. The brooch would have been small and portable and when wore a way to show off your travels.
