The "Edo Ningyo Shoki and Oni" is an antique original Japanese doll set from the Edo Period. The set features traditional figures known as Shoki, a demon-queller, and Oni, a demon or ogre. These handcrafted dolls are a unique and valuable piece of other Japanese antiques, showcasing intricate craftsmanship and cultural significance from Japan's rich history. The large and bearded Shoki stands triumphantly over Oni. Shoki wears a floral robe and a headpiece. The red Oni lays on the ground with his arms reaching to escape the demon queller. The Oni had devil horns and wears a fur like garment. This is an outstanding set full of detail. The stagnant dolls provide movement and action with their positions, which is not always easy to capture. The set is on a wooden base.
The set is in very good condition. The Shoki's sword has come off its handle.Dimensions: about 18" X 10"
