A daguerreotype is a direct positive process including a silver-coated copper plate and a silver-mercy amalgam image. They are always printed on silver polished plates. Daguerreotypes are almost exclusively portraiture. The photos are housed in a miniature hinged case made of wood. Daguerreotypes date to around 1839-1860s.

The case has a beautiful floral design on the front and back. Inside is red colored velvet fabric with a leaf. The photo, on the right, is of a man and woman. They are both seated and look directly at the camera. The note reads that they are brother and sister, named Edward and Susan.

Both cases and pictures show signs of wear and age. The case is also missing its hinges.
