This Antique Japanese Textile Printing Block from the 19th century showcases the intricate and detailed craftsmanship of traditional Japanese textile art. The block features a unique design that was used for printing patterns onto fabric, offering a glimpse into the artistry and cultural influences of the time. The pattern depicts a floral motif with umbrellas scattered throughout. Perfect for collectors of Asian antiques or those interested in the history of Japanese textile production, this printing block is a rare and valuable piece of heritage.

How it was used

1. The artisan pressed the block into paste or dye.

2. It was stamped onto fabric in a repeating pattern.

3. For resist work, the paste would prevent dye penetration, creating the design after dyeing.

The wood has some wear/cracks due to age and wear. A few rised metal "spikes" are missing. Good condition.
