This is an Antique Japanese Drip Glaze Pottery Oni Koro Censer. The oni figure is holding a bois barrel with a bronze helmet lid. The well executed figure is also a censer. Oni is a kind of demon/troll/ogre in Japanese folklore. Oni have superhuman strength and have been associated with powers like thunder and lightning. This would explain the large barrel he is holding upon his shoulder. The oni sits on a wooden base.
 
The piece has a hairline crack through the body and the barrel, but otherwise is in good condition.
