Ambrotypes are an underexposed, underdeveloped, wet-collodion negative on glass. The picture appears positive because of the dark background. Ambrotypes are almost exclusively portraiture. Ambrotypes date to c. 1854-1880s.

The photo is housed in a miniature hinged case made of wood. The front and back of the case display a pattern of natural motifs. The case is meant to open like a book, revealing a red colored velvet on the left side and the photo on the right. The photo is of a girl who looks off to the left. The photo is incased in a golden foil which includes another pattern of natural motifs, most likely done by repousse.

The case shows signs of wear and age. The case is also missing its hinges.
