A tintype is a direct positive with a lacquered iron support, collodion binder layer, and silver image layer. Tintypes were typically inserted into folding cards opposed to hinged cases. Tintypes date to c. 1853-1930s.

These tintypes were made by the company Alden Photo’s. & Views. located on 63 Court St. in Boston.

The first tintype is of a little girl pushing her doll in a stroller. With the backdrop and the little girl being all bundled up, the photo was made to look like she was outside. The photo was taken on December 30th, 1879. The back of the card reads Lucy Gillette.

The second tintype is of a little girl seated on a chaise lounge. The card reads Susan Gillette Blair. The photo was most likely taken between 1879 and 1882.

The third tintype is of two little girls. The two girls are most likely sisters. The photo was taken on April 24th, 1882.

The fourth tintype is of a little girl seated on a chair covered in fabric. The photo was taken in 1882.

All the photos and cards show signs of wear and age.
