20th century Southern Sumatra, Indonesia carved wood keris handle in the Tapak Kuda (horse foot) style. Delicately pierced and carved horse hoof form decorated with raised bands of traditional stylized floral and leaf shapes and patterns forming an anthropomorphic elephant. This is due to Islamic tradition against showcasing the animal form.
 
The handle color is a rich reddish-brown color and is in good condition.
