A daguerreotype is a direct positive process including a silver-coated copper plate and a silver-mercy amalgam image. They are always printed on silver polished plates. Daguerreotypes are almost exclusively portraiture. The photos are housed in a miniature hinged case made of wood and covered with leather. Daguerreotypes date to around 1839-1860s.
The front and back of the case display a geometric pattern with floral motifs. On the left inside is a red colored velvet with a beautiful bouquet of flowers. The right side is where the photo is. The photo is of a little girl seated on a chair covered in floral fabric.
The other case has a flower with a bird on the front and back. Inside is a pink/red colored silk fabric. The photo is of a woman, who looks directly at the viewer. The woman’s hairstyle dates the photo to around 1840-1855 which was the Victorian Gothic Era.
Both of the cases and pictures show signs of wear and age. They are also missing their hinges.
