This is a British Victorian Era, 1880's, hand carved Meerschaum smoking pipe depicting a reclining British Colonial Soldier with his rifle. 
 
Meerschaum also known as mineral sepiolite is a soft claylike material that is porous enough to be used for smoking pipes and that can carved into intricate forms. 
 
This pipe is in good condition with some cracking and loss due to age and use.
