This antique copper crab is described as a "Jizai Okimono," a small articulated metal figure representing an animal or insect. This type of metal work was common during the Japanese Edo and Meiji periods, this piece being from approximately 1850. This crab has movable limbs, all in working condition. Some oxidation can be seen around its left eye, which is also slightly loose. Otherwise this piece is in good condition considering its age.
