This is a beautifully hand engraved Victorian christening fork and spoon set. The set is hallmarked sterling silver and engraved with a highly detailed floral pattern. During the Victorian period silver cutlery sets became a popular christening gift among the wealthy, this is because sterling silver kills bacteria. The set is fitted in a purple velvet lined box with a push in clasp.
The London Makers are Henry John Lias and James Wakely, their hallmarks are also present clearly on the fork. The fork dated 1884 and the spoon is dated 1883. In antique box marked: Whytock and Sons, Goldsmiths and Jewelry, Dundee.
The set is in good condition with minor scratches and ware on the utensils from age and use.
