Meiji Period Japanese copper box, ca. 1900. The box is in the shape of a small purse or pouch and is adorned with a tied metal rope at the top. The box is covered in small high reliefs which show plants, flowers, fruit, birds. The box also has a couple of figures such as; a woman wearing a kimono holding a teapot next to an old man with a walking stick and a figure dancing with animals surrounding them. The box is also covered with engraved floral decorative motifs.

 

The box stands on four cloud shaped feet. The lid can be fully removed, revealing a beautiful gold gilding on the inside. The box is perfect for displaying or putting trinkets inside.

 

The box has some tarnishing, but is in good overall shape.
