Beautiful Meiji Japanese small damascene box by Komai. This five lobed box is made of iron with gold and silver inlay and gilding inside. The scene on the lid is of Kintai Bridge, a historical wooden arch bridge built in the city of Iwakuni. The bridge was built in 1673 and spans the Nishiki River in a series of five wooden arches. This scene also shows tiny sailboats in the river and a little skul boat passing under the bridge. Little buildings, trees, and landscape are in the background. A band of gold leaves frames the top with silver sides and Komai seal on the bottom.

This box is in very good condition considering its age.
