early 19th Century, Islamic, Syrian, Meenakari plate with bright turquoise enamel, Circa 1810. Meenakari is the art of coloring and ornamenting the surface of metals by fusing over it brilliant colors that are decorated in an intricate design. This handsome plate features a geometric, floral pattern along its rim. The center depicts eight cartouches, four with a calligraphic pattern and four with a floral motif. The base metal is copper. This plate is in very good condition in accordance with age. There are not cracks to the enamel, but the copper is oxidized (due to age).
