Absolutely stunning Chinese Crane Rank Badge. The crane is a symbol of longevity and wisdom associated with advanced age and was made for a first rank civil official. This badge, dating to the Late Qing Dynasty, was made for a male, due to its position right of the sun. It is intricately detailed with the eight precious things in Buddhism (left to right): a fish, a lotus flower, a vase, an umbrella, the wheel of the law, the unending knot, a canopy, and a conch shell. This incredibly unique piece is in unused, textbook, pristine condition!
This badge came from and old German collection, that did not see the light of day for over 50 years. In the 1930's it was taken out of China, and many other pieces from this same collection also remain totally unused.
