This 19th century Meiji Japanese lacquer box is covered in a ground of rich brown lacquer with a sprinkling of tiny silver flakes and silver edges. It is decorated with delicately painted fans of differing scenes; little boat in the reeds, a royal place surrounded by cherry trees, and gold chrysanthemum blossoms.
