Services > Appraisals
When making a significant fine jewelry purchase, ask for an appraisal and, if the jewelry contains diamonds, a grading report. A grading report describes a diamond’s specific features including carat weight, clarity, color and dimensions. An appraisal will tell you the monetary value of the jewelry you are purchasing and is usually required for insurance purposes -- such as replacing the item if it is lost or stolen. There are three types of appraisals to consider. The Exact Replacement Appraisal is the most expensive and includes the cost of an identical item to the item being replaced. The Retail Replacement Appraisal is the most common appraisal and includes the cost of a comparable item of similar cost, quality and condition. An Estate Appraisal determines the base value of an item based on the cost of materials.
At Haig's of Rochester Fine Jewelry, we know how important your jewelry is to you and your family. If you need appraisals, we can help. We will provide you with:
1. An appraisal form
2. Photos of the item(s)
3. A complete written description of the item(s)
4. Retail Replacement value
Many insurance companies request that appraisals over a certain value be written by qualified appraisers. Our GIA (Gemological Institute of America) training and years of experience in jewelry gives you peace-of-mind that the appraisal you receive is truthful and honest.
